Mrs. Eddy: Her Life, Her Work and Her Place in History by Hugh A. Studdert Kennedy This is a full-scale biography of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, tracing her story from her New England ancestry and childhood through her early marriages, her studies with Phineas P. Quimby, the writing and revision of Science and Health, and the founding and growth of her church, up through the controversies and struggles of her later organizational work.
Studdert Kennedy’s stated aim, set out in his foreword, was to move past both the reverential church-sponsored accounts and the hostile attacks of her detractors, and instead let the documented facts speak for themselves. The book was completed and prepared for publication by his wife after his death, drawing on his research to present what he intended as an authentic, unslanted historical portrait of Mrs. Eddy and her place in history.
